ora wins grant in fedex small business grant contest

Congratulations to ORA, a winner of Canada’s inaugural FedEx Small Business Grant Contest.

Of the over 2,000 entrants, ORA—the only grant recipient in Saskatchewan—was one of 75 finalist businesses selected by FedEx to submit a video describing the passion that drives their company. From there, FedEx determined the recipients of the available grants. ORA was awarded one of eight Bronze prizes—a $5,000 grant.

ORA offers wearable devices equipped with discreetly hidden alert buttons, giving users the ability to notify contacts when help is needed. Since ORA pairs with a smartphone, users are protected wherever there is cell phone coverage.

In ORA founder Serese Selanders’ application story, she shared how the grant money would support marketing and branding efforts that would help communicate the company’s value proposition.

Earlier this year, Selanders was one of 25 women entrepreneurs in Canada selected to participate in Communitech's Fierce Founders Bootcamp? in Waterloo, Ontario, and was a finalist at the end of the two-part bootcamp designed for early-stage founders. Selanders was also selected to be a part of two Women in Tech events, one in Los Angeles and one in Silicon Valley.

"I am excited to be recognized for this National award. However, I am most proud of the fact ORA has already saved two lives.” – Serese Selanders - Founder, ORA
