regina scientists win 2019 award of innovation

Dr. Chris Yost, Dr. Jordyn Bergsveinson, Dr. Aditi Sharma, Dr. Dinah Tambalo, and Dr. Huda Khan from Lallemand were recognized at the Regina and District Chamber of Commerce Paragon Awards on April 5, 2019.

The team received the Award of Innovation, co-sponsored by Innovation Place and the University of Regina. The award recognizes original University of Regina research with the potential to create substantive societal benefits.

The team of scientists was acknowledged for their work in understanding and improving Lallemand’s innovative crop inoculants—the bacteria or fungi added to crop plants to help mobilize nutrients or help protect plants against diseases—to quickly and successfully create better products for farmers.

Dr. Huda Khan represented Lallemand, the research team’s commercial partner. Lallemand specializes in the development, production, and marketing of yeasts and bacteria. The company focuses on various applications of yeast and bacteria in baking, fermented beverages, human and animal nutrition and fuel ethanol for agricultural and pharmaceutical uses.
