Saskatchewan Launches New $1 Million Agtech Growth Fund

The Government of Saskatchewan launched a new $1 million fund to encourage development of agricultural technology in the province. The AgTech Growth Fund is administered by Innovation Saskatchewan, a tenant at Innovation Place in Saskatoon, and is the first program dedicated to accelerating innovative agricultural technologies.

Ag-tech companies in Saskatchewan have been featured in the news recently highlighting both the importance of the sector and the need for digital technologies to solve challenges within it. Ian Meier, Co-Founder and CEO of Agrimatics, a tenant at Innovation Place in Saskatoon, recently spoke with Innovation Saskatchewan about how COVID-19 has impacted the agricultural industry and how digital solutions and local support is paving a path to success. Karen Churchill, President and CEO of Ag-West Bio, a tenant at Innovation Place in Saskatoon, discussed the innovation within the ag-tech sector and how it is poised for tremendous growth.

“There are some brilliant young engineers in this province that probably have an idea or have a concept they want to develop further,” Saskatchewan Agriculture Minister David Marit told farmnewsNOW. “They just need funding.” The AgTech Growth Fund will provide opportunity and support for transformative development in the industry.
